The scattering echo enables to read the case-hardened layer, and provides digital display of highly accurate measurements.
This "HARD ECHO"is developed to measure the case-hardened layer by the ultrasonic scattering echo. The suitable selection of probe, holder and measuring conditions enables to distinguish the boundary of the case-hardened layer and the base metal.
Applications
The "HARD ECHO" can be applied for the various case-hardened components by high frequency induction heating such as automotive parts, construction machinery, machining tools, internal combustion engine and various industrial machinery.

Measurement Principle
The case-hardened layer has a fine metallographic texture than the non-hardened layer below it.
An ultrasonic pulse irradiated upon a workpiece whose case depth is to be measured is backscattered from the boundary between such two layers as an echo. By measuring the time from the injection of the pulse to the return of the echo, the case-hardened depth is calculated and displayed on a CRT screen.
