Apoptosis is the term given to the process of programmed cell death that occurs in muliceiluar orgonisms .Biochemical events lead to characteristic morphological cell changes and death. These changes include cell blebbing, cell shrinkage, nuclear. fragmentation, chromatin condensation, and chromosomal DNA fragmentation. lt is usually advantegeous for a cell to go through apoptosis to assist its progression through a normal life cycle. Apoptosis produces apoptotic bodies which are small celll fragments that phagocytes can engulf and quickly remove before the cell's escaping contents cause toxicty in the surrounding cellular envirorment.
